While the November election gave us all the hope of great change, we were appalled at the passage of Measure 8 in California. In Massachusetts, we are proud to honor the right of all couples to marry, raise families, and create loving homes. We feel lucky to be the first state in the country to recognize the rights of all couples to marry. 

We feel strongly that this right MUST be extended throughout the nation and become the law of the land. Doing this state by state is something, but it’s not enough. ALL couples should have the same legal rights that come with federally recognized marriage and the tax and family benefits we have been entitled to since we married nearly 13 years ago. 

To that end, we are honoring the White Knot Campaign, because “Everyone Should Have The Right to Tie The Knot.” 

We’ve created our own way of doing this by dedicating the entire window of our Northampton store to the White Knot theme. We will also distribute white knots in our store, as well as information about the campaign. 

The project was a long one–many, many hours of tying, countless blisters, and empathy with those who have arthritis in their fingers–but it’s all worth it for something we consider vitally important–and timely. 

This Thursday, the California State Supreme Court will hear arguments challenging the legality of Measure 8. Please wear your white knot to show you support Marriage Equality.
